Llanddwyn Beach
Llanddwyn Beach is a firm favourite among locals and tourists alike. Its pristine sandy beach stretches out for miles and the scenery is something else.
The mountains of Snowdonia on one side flowing down into the Llyn Penisula and Llanddwyn Island on the other. To the rear is soft golden sand and a dark and moody pine forest with its red squirrels. To the front is the clear waters where if you are lucky you may just see a Dolphin or two. The area around the end of Llanddwyn island very often has a seal or two swimming around which are east to spot.
The gently shelving beach is relatively safe for paddling and swimming as there are no sudden depth changes. Paddleboarders often launch from the beach as well as small canoes. The area is ideal for trips over the see Llanddwyn Island in calm weather. The island help to protect Llanddwyn beach from wind and waves leaving the bay far calmer than the other side. The large pine forest to the rear also help keep away any northerly winds which can turn the beach in to a very warm sun trap.
Whatever you are looking for this is the beach for it, amazing views, clear waters and facilities close by. That is unless you walk away from the parking to more secluded section giving you plenty of space and privacy. Especially towards the Menai in the East.
The dunes to the rear are great to explore and you may even spot a lizard or two darting around. Further back are the semi wild horses that graze the area. The dunes can get very warm in summer as the sands warm up and not a breeze can be felt. A great spot for hiding away or maybe a picnic.
The below pictures of Llanddwyn beach were taken just 6 days before Christmas, the middle of Winter. The sun was shining and the whole area was bathed in Winter sunshine. Llandwyn Beach is an amazing place to visit and I think my personal favourite in North Wales. Its the first place I take new visitors to North Wales or recommend, its always a winner.
Llanddwyn Beach can be found at LL61 6SG. The post code is the closest you are able to use but puts you on the correct road. Follow the road to the end through Newborough Forest and the main car park is at the bottom by the beach. There are toilets on the car park and depending on the time of the year an ice cream van and another van selling hot drinks etc.
Llanddwyn Beach is often referred to as Newborough beach after the local town.
