Plane Spotting in North Wales
Plane spotting in North Wales is a fun, fast and furious affair.
Whether you are a budding enthusiast or just want to try it out then North Wales has got you covered.
Many a time we have been surprised by incoming aircraft. Fighter jets, Military transporters and helicopters make regular use of the area. There is a key designated area by the MOD that allows low flying by military aircraft in certain areas on the edge of North Wales. This area known as LFA7 meaning low flying area with 7 being its designation.
Avid spotters come from all over the UK and even Europe to watch the pilots hone their low flying skills. The fighter jets fly low and loud as they twist and turn through the hills. Just as awesome to see are the large low flying military juggernauts of the skies as they meander through the hills. Most enthusiasts will know this area as the Mach Loop and that it is a popular location to see the aircraft.
The Mach Loop is used by multiple allied nations, so not just the RAF. The most regular sightings are however usually the RAF and American Air Force fighter jets.
North Wales is also home to RAF Valley based on Anglesey which also gets regular visitors from allied nation,
