Rhiwargor Waterfall
Rhiwargor Waterfall is an epic waterfall not far from the shores of Lake Vyrnwy. The drive in along the lakeside road is absolutely amazing along the evergreen forest. In fact the entire area is an amazing experience in itself, the Dam of Lake Vyrnwy is worth the drive alone.
The waterfall is not a steep vertical drop but a series of staggered falls to the river below. The area below Rhiwargor-waterfall is fairly flat and also has a picnic bench. It does look like people have crossed and walked up the opposite side but not something we have tried. This may be to get access to higher parts of the falls.
Lake Vyrnwy’s waterfall is vast and can be seen as you make your way down from the car park. The walk from the car park can be done via two pathways either side of the river coming from the falls. The path on the left up to the falls is uneven and often full of mud out of season. However staying on the right hand path by crossing the bridge is far easier, it looks like a forestry road.
The car park is fairly large and will fit around 40 cars comfortably, it has a couple of picnic benches overlooking the area too. Just follow the well worn path out of the car park towards the falls, it is sign posted too. The river will be visible on your right and side as you walk towards the falls. This is until you come to the bridge, crossing and walking the forestry path is the easier route.
The nearest facilities ie toilets are in the village of Llanwddyn which is by Lake Vyrnwy Dam.
If you do visit and I recommend you do and not just for the waterfall there are a few things close by to check out. The Dam itself is immense and watching the water flow over is fun, you can also walk and drive across the dam. Secondly the water tower in Lake Vyrnwy looks like a fairy tale castle and is well worth a look. The area is also great for boating on the lake and bird watching with an RSPB centre by the dam. Moreover there are numerous pathways across the local hills with superb scenery and views across the lake.
